American Youtuber literally sent Dogecoin to Space to celebrate Elon Musk’s 50th Birthday

A US-based Youtuber, Reid Williamson, sent a token of Elon Musk‘s favorite cryptocurrency to space to celebrate his 50th birthday on June 28th. Dogecoin is now a recognized currency on Coinbase as the coin has grown hugely in popularity this past year thanks to the CEO of Tesla’s CEO.

Williamson on Youtube shared a video of the whole experience of how he made it, approaching the purchase of a replica of the meme-coin, weather balloons, GPS trackers and helium gas tanks to power the balloon. The equipment was built to send Dogecoin to space from scratch by Reid. In the course of the process, he set up the balloon with the Dogecoin with his friends’ help and attached a camera to it.

The video shows that the weather balloon stayed in space for a long time and landed over 30 miles from where it started. Williamson and his friends drove the distance to find the weather balloon with the Dogecoin replica missing.

The meme-cryptocurrency reached a record number in mid-April, crossing 10 cents for the first occasion because of a movement that involved several buyers, online posters and Elon Musk. Initially, at the beginning of January, each token was worth less than one cent, however, later in the month and after the GameStop and Dogecoin movements hit their stride, the value of DogeCoin skyrocketed to 7,5 cents. The coin has spent the past months in the three-to the seven-cent range.

Elon Musk has announced in a recent interview to TMZ that this cryptocurrency could be the future. In this interview, he declared that:

“There is a good chance that crypto is the future currency of the world. Then the question is which win is it going to be? It could be multiple.”

In addition, he has explained that the source of how Dogecoin was devised as a joke to make fun of cryptocurrency and that is the irony. He complements saying:

“That the currency that began as a joke, becomes the real currency.”

In the video, he also advises people not to invest their life savings into cryptocurrency, because it may be unwise in his opinion.
